Pink Floyd en directo en la Piazza San Marco, en el Gran Canal de Venecia, Italia, el 15/07/1989. Este evento, denominado «Un concierto para Europa», fue retransmitido por RAI FM y televisión en Italia y otros países europeos. Esta grabación proviene de una retransmisión radiofónica alemana, a la que se le han añadido la introducción y los fuegos artificiales finales de la retransmisión televisiva italiana.

La retransmisión televisiva de este concierto también se grabó en vídeo y se lanzó en DVD en Italia, y se publicaron grabaciones pirata en CD en Europa y Japón.

Este concierto gratuito e histórico, que tuvo lugar durante la gira de Pink Floyd «A Momentary Lapse of Reason», se celebró en una barcaza flotante en el Gran Canal de Venecia, Italia, durante la tradicional Festa del Redentore.

Tras los conciertos en la Arena de Verona, Monza, Livorno y Cava de' Tirreni en mayo de 1989, el productor veneciano Francesco «Fran» Tomasi propuso a Pink Floyd que cerrara su gira por Italia con un concierto gratuito en su ciudad la noche del 15 de julio de 1989, durante la tradicional Festa del Redentore.

Inicialmente se planeó instalar el escenario, de veinticuatro metros de altura, en el extremo de la isla de Giudecca, pero debido a la falta de espacio se decidió utilizar unas grandes balsas amarradas en medio de la dársena de San Marcos, frente al Palacio Ducal. Considerado uno de los conciertos de rock más extraordinarios y controvertidos jamás celebrados en Italia, tuvo lugar el 15 de julio de 1989 durante la tradicional Fiesta del Redentor (Festa del Redentore) ante unos 200.000 espectadores ubicados en las orillas y barcos de la dársena de San Marcos. Fue retransmitido por la RAI a nivel mundial, alcanzando una audiencia de aproximadamente 100 millones de espectadores.

El coste del evento fue financiado con mil millones de liras italianas por la RAI, que retransmitió el concierto a nivel mundial y simultáneamente en las dos Alemanias; el resto de los gastos (varios cientos de millones de liras) fueron cubiertos por Pink Floyd. Se estima que, a nivel mundial, el concierto fue visto por 100 millones de espectadores, 27 millones de ellos en Estados Unidos (donde se retransmitió por cable a un precio de diez dólares). En Italia, el concierto fue visto por más de 3,5 millones de espectadores, con una cuota de pantalla del 30%.
